One of the most common mistakes that I see with employers and recruiters, is taking a person’s r?sum? at face value. This is particularly fatal when it comes to hiring sales people. Why? Sales people are masters of the spin. When I see a r?sum? that comes to me full such spin (for example increased pipeline by 82%, doubled bookings, tripled revenue, etc), and I don’t see absolute revenue or booking figures, I become highly suspicious. That’s why one of the first things I do when I interview a sales candidate is to ask them to put together a “sales achievement history”. This is a very simple spreadsheet that recaps a candidate’s actual achievement against goals over the previous number of years, in absolute dollar figures. It’s very easy to ask for, and most successful sales candidates are willing to produce it. Ask them to open up an excel spreadsheet and make a list and table with the year, their annual sales goal, and their actual achievement in columns. Ask them to go back about five years in their history.As you can imagine, the good candidates are happy to produce this information for you and fully capable of doing it. Why? Many Genius Authors Will Not Read Other Geniuses Works
Many of the great fiction writers and authors of the present period and the past have stated in interviews that they do not read other author's works. Many author geniuses I have talked to that are writers of both fiction and nonfiction specifically will not read what other people write. In fact it is a very prominent; NO! That in itself is interesting as it is so blunt and obvious.You might ask yourself why this phenomenon takes place. Personally I am always reading a lot myself and I wonder how come geniuses don't often read what other people write. I am not sure but I know this to be the case. I have considered this myself and I have often wondered why come other geniuses were not interested in my ideas and concepts even though they were in the same field and doing research in the same scientific domain. Of course sometimes they will contact me anyway?Some researchers, authors and writers or artists will look at what everyone else is doing and take in all the information, although most will not because they do not want to cloud their judgment or interfere with their focus, but this is a specific type of genius.Personally I don't get along with most authors although I am one now I guess, because I always thought them to be persnickety writers rather than doers like me. Some say that other writers do not want read other author's works because it might affect their writing style, the same writing style which has brought them success in the past.

By definition, a novel has over 50,000 words and most genre novels have over 150,000 words. A historical romance may have 400,000 words or more.
