But aren't blogs a useful publicity tool, gathering readers to your words of wisdom? In truth, not really. 90% or more of all book sales occur when someone in a shop spots a title they fancy. Less than five percent occur online, and of those 99% are sales of books by famous authors. And where will your blog posts be five years from now? A printed book is forever. So why all the blogging and chat? Because it's publishing by proxy. You may not have a book in print - possibly haven't even written one - but by gum you can talk about it, and by talking about it you're included in the big old friendly world of publishing.
