A Positive Approach to Employee Performance Improvement Through Discipline
For seventy-five years, American organizations have used a fairly standardized procedure to handle familiar personnel problems such as absenteeism, poor performance, and other misconduct. This approach, usually called “progressive discipline,” provides for an increasingly serious series of penalties — reprimands, warnings, suspensions without pay — when employees fall out of step with the organization’s expectations. When problems arise, the job of the manager is to find the punishment that fits the crime. But today, a grow

A Business Wine Gift Can Strengthen Business Relationships
You are probably familiar with the traditional fruit baskets and flower settings used as business gifts in today’s modern corporate world. But a new trend is developing in corporate gift giving that adds a whole new dimension to business relationships – the business wine gift.As it is customary for business associates to exchange gifts on occasion, an alcoholic gift has been frowned upon in the American business scene. But as business relationships become closer and on a more personal level, a wine gift is becoming much
A man contacted me about promoting his commercial interior design firm that he was starting. At that time he was working as a department store buyer where he was very bored in his job. He was interested in making a career change to interior designing. He had no formal training but had educated himself in interior design and had worked on some very small showroom and office design projects in an assisting role.

After meeting with him and learning his goals, I did some research into office and showroom designs, and the correlations between new designs and increased business. I discovered that office interior designing was a lot more plentiful but more competitive. The larger design firms concentrated on the office designing market. I decide for my client that it would be best if he would concentrate his efforts on the showroom design market which was less competitive and easier to break into.

I helped my client create a web site that would express his unique approach to designing showrooms. The web site allowed clients to request information on the different types and styles of showroom designs that my client has to offer. There would be articles and links to articles that would be of interest and help prospective clients with what type of showroom design would be best for their business. The web site would provide examples of other projects that were successfully done.

3 Innovation Keys - Do Your Innovative Efforts Need More Power?
Recently, I attended a webinar with nearly 400 other Chief Learning Officers - during one polling period, we were asked what primary driving force pushes organization-wide or individual innovation - the majority agreed that leadership is that force.Indeed, those CLOs agreed innovation was the most important quality their organizations desire in teams, individuals and leaders. In today's fast-paced society, where images, ideas and ideals fly past through our minds at warp-speed, the only way to survive

When did the Job Hunter Become the Bad Guy?
Without a doubt, this is a highly competitive world we live—and work—in. The job boards are full of very technical jobs requiring specific skill sets from would-be candidates. Nobody understands this better than the HR manager or the recruiter tasked to fill a position. It’s not uncommon today to find, at the bottom of a job description, a statement in bold declaring, “Please only apply if you meet ALL of the requirements listed.”Thank you, we get it.This desire for the perfect candidate has fostered a perceiv

Now That The Rain Has Stopped, Don't Let Your Business Drown In Bad Debt!
We have had an unusual amount of rain this year followed by hotter than normal temperatures here in New Hampshire. Normally, no matter where we are, we don’t notice the rain or heat unless it directly affects us or is unusual, like this season. This is also true with small or new business owners. Unless they have unusual circumstances, such as a bad check, or non-payment of a large balance they don’t pay much attention to the credit end of their business. Most buisness owners don't think about what to do about a bad check

The Importance Of Keeping Your Resume Updated
Whether or not you're on the hunt for a new job, keeping your resume up-to-date is important. There's nothing worse than scrambling to come up with an accurate and interesting resume when you have two days to make the submission deadline for a job opening. It's Essential to Be Prepared Since you never know when you might need to submit it, you should regularly update your resume with relevant accomplishments, new job duties, recently achieved certifications, and other similar achievements instead of trying to remember crit

I included links in the articles back to my client’s web site. I created a newsletter for my client that contained helpful information to prospects by explaining several different ways of how new showroom designs can increase business. The newsletter contained links to my clients’ web site as well as links to articles and sources of information that would be of assistance to any potential prospects.

I created a print ad for the New York Real Estate Journal and wrote an article under my clients’ by-lines that appeared with the ad. After the article and ad appeared, I ordered reprints, wrote a solicitation letter, and bought a list of approximately 500 real estate lawyers (new showroom tenants typically have their lawyers negotiate their leases). The solicitation letters gave my clients web site address and where to find his newsletter. The solicitation letters were mailed with a bulk mail permit from a local post office. They were also sent via email.

A few weeks later after sending out the solicitation letter and reprints, a lawyer who represented a men’s suit designer company responded to our ads. I prepared for my client a four color brochure, a PowerPoint presentation, and a script to follow during his presentation. My client was up against 3 other firms competing for the contract. My client was rewarded the contract. The contract was
