There are two main areas of learning, Cognitive, (knowing) and Psychomotor, (doing).

Cognitive, is academic based, reading instructions is a good example, so if I was to ask someone with good academic skills to assemble a wardrobe for instance, I would give them a set of written instructions and let them get on with it. Every time I wanted a wardrobe building by an academic, I would give them written instruction each time.

Psychomotor, is someone who learns by “doing.” If I was to ask someone with good “motor” skills to build a wardrobe I would simply show them. Once I have shown them they could go on with no other instruction and build a wardrobe. Every time I wanted a wardrobe building, (and this is the difference), I would just have to ask them to build it, they would recall their experience of “doing” and build it.

The way I learn and it is the same for most hairdressers, is the way of “doing”. The great thing is because the way I learn and the nature of hairdressing, I can excel in the industry of hairdressing. If you would like to learn more about hairdressing as a career, follow the link.
